A domain name or URL is the name of your website. For example,
"www.hiswizard.com". Your name can be any combination of letters
and numbers but can not already be used. It also can end with .com(most common),
.info, .net, .org, .mobi, .biz, or .name. See "How do I purchase a
domain name/URL?" for information on searching for a name.
Hosting is where your webpage documents, photos, etc...
are actually kept. designing a web page and hosting one are two seperate
things. Documents and photo's aren't held on your computer and sent to
internet, they are actually on a "host" server so that your page shows up on
the world wide web. Hosting can cost as little as $5 a month but can be expensive
for large websites. Contact us for information on what it would cost for your specific
site.
There are many domain "agents" on the internet where you
can buy a name. I personally recommend
www.godaddy.com.
It is extremely user friendly and domain names cost less than $10 per year. For detailed
instructions on setting up a godaddy.com account and buying a name from godaddy.com download
our 'Buying a Domain' instruction document located on the Products page.
We recommend purchasing your hosting through us if you will be having
your updates done by us. Prices vary depending on the size of your site and the amount
of content you have. Contact us for more details on your specific site. You can also do
a google search on hosting to view various companies that offer hosting.
It all depends on your site size. If you have all your data and photos ready
it greatly reduces the amount of time needed. A typical small business site of 1-5 pages takes
less than a week for us to get up and running!
We sure can! Please visit our "classes" page for more information. To build
and maintain your own site you would need to take: HTML 101, HTML 201, and Hosting. To be able to
perform fancy layouts, color schemes, and font styles we recommend taking CSS 101 as well.
Here is what you will need to get started with us:
- How many pages you need.
- The names of the pages you need(Home, Contact, Products, etc...)
- Color scheme.
- What domain name you are going to use.
- Navigation style(buttons, text, horizontal, vertical).
- A general idea of how you'd like everything laid out.
